As reported by the San Bernardino County Sun: "Members of the Los Coyotes Band of Indians continued their weeklong fast on the state Capitol lawn Tuesday, trying to draw attention to their stalled efforts to run a casino in Barstow.
"The tribe's compact has been dealt a defeat in the Legislature, which Los Coyotes spokesmen blame on heavy lobbying opposition from wealthier Southern California tribes that already have
casinos.
"Those tribes attribute their opposition to the belief that this compact would violate a term of Proposition 1A, which allows Las Vegas-style gambling at Indian casinos, that states that gaming should be on tribal lands only.
"…Los Coyotes tribal members came to Sacramento last week to fast on the Capitol lawn as a way of gaining public attention to their cause"
