More than 50 teams of employees from Ontario Lottery and
Gaming Corporation (OLGC) casinos and slot facilities across the province will go to bat for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Federated Health campaign at a fun and fund-raising slo-pitch softball tournament at the Optimist Park sports complex in Niagara Falls June 13 and 14, 2006.
More than 900 employees will volunteer their time and travel to participate in tournament which is the largest event being staged by any corporate supporter of the Federated Health Charities Campaign. The event includes 20 teams from Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara.
"This really shows what our people and our organization are all about," said Larry Flynn, Senior Vice President - Gaming, OLGC. "We're going to have some great fun and support an important cause, and we're proud so many of our employees are joining in. Every day we work to make life better across Ontario by generating revenues provincially and economic and social benefits locally, and this showcases how our people take that to heart."
Last year's event raised more than $6,000 which was donated to the Canadian Cancer Society through the Federated Health Campaign, continuing a tradition started six years ago by an OLGC employee who was since lost to cancer. Two cancer-surviving employees will join in throwing the ceremonial first pitch. A special charity game featuring OLGC executives against a community team of local firefighters will lead off the two-day slate of games.
OLGC supports the Federated Health Charities Campaign at
all gaming sites and offices through staff-run efforts. Federated Health is a unique effort within the Ontario Public Service, raising more than $21.8 million for major health charities in Ontario that promote wellness and support those in need. OLGC is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games, commercial and charitable casinos, and the operation and management of slot machine facilities at horse racing tracks.
