As reported by the Detroit News: "The era of pouring tokens into slot machines at the Greektown
Casino has been over for some time, but gamblers clinging to the metal pieces have until 11:59 p.m. Thursday to redeem them at face value or keep them as worthless souvenirs.
"The downtown casino finished converting to coinless machines about a year ago. Greektown has been redeeming the tokens since then but will deem them worthless at Thursday night's deadline.
"While coinless slot machines are a trend in the
gaming industry, Jacob L. Miklojcik, president of Michigan Consultants in Lansing and national gaming expert, said he was surprised that Greektown went 100 percent paper.
"…While upgrading to paper slot machines has meant the loss of jobs at some casinos, that's not the case at Greektown. Rutledge said no cashiers or token attendants lost their jobs; they were reassigned other duties…"
