John Reynolds loves to bet on sports. And like almost everyone, he also hates to lose money. Now, John
can fulfill his sports betting fantasies while staying firmly grounded in reality.
Wiseguys.com launches this month for sports
betting enthusiasts like John. It bills itself as a full-service (and fully
legal) "simulated sportsbook," offering real odds from two Las Vegas and
three offshore sportsbooks. Competing against friends and colleagues, John
and his friends can compete for bragging rights. They can set up exclusive
"private leagues" comprised of a select few. They can also elect to
participate in "public leagues" comprised of all participating Wiseguys
users.
Wiseguys Ups the Ante
Now, thanks to the "Wiseguys Pigskin Payoff," John and his friends can
also compete for bigger stakes. Launching this coming weekend, the Wiseguys
Pigskin Payoff is a $5,000 football betting contest. Unlike Wiseguys'
simulated wagering products, this contest offers cold, hard cash.
The Wiseguys Pigskin Payoff will challenge football betting enthusiasts
to combine strategy with betting acumen to amass the largest bankroll of
SmartMoney - what Wiseguys calls its simulated currency - over an eighteen
week period. Twenty
games will be featured on the Wiseguys website each
week, and contestants will be challenged to pick ten to twenty winners each
week against the spread. The overall winner wins $1,500. Second, third, and
fourth place will receive cash prizes, as will each week's winners.
A Diverse Portfolio of Products
Wiseguys offers a variety of products and services to complement its
simulated wagering game. The "Advanced Package" is an innovative, web-based
line service that shows up-to-the-minute, live odds for two Vegas books and
three offshore books. Because this service is web-based, there are never
any programs to download, and lines can be checked by Wiseguys customers
from any computer with an Internet connection. Wiseguys' "Breaking News"
service brings sports bettors updated information compiled by Las Vegas
sportsbook veteran Scotty Schettler and his research team. This information
is geared toward "beating the steam," getting bets in on advantageous lines
before breaking news causes that line to move. Serious sports bettors crave
information, and Wiseguys seeks to fulfill those needs, bringing news to
the desktop while that news still has value.
The Wiseguys.com website also features
original content with reminiscences by Scotty Schettler in his "Las Vegas
Betting Primer" column; a "Citizen of the Week" feature on the bad boys of
sports by contributor Ronnie Degas; and a column by Wiseguys researcher
John Mastalir entitled "Here It Is". An active message board and sports
