NFL Season Sees Surprising Teams Moving To 2-0 in Week 2

Every NFL season brings some surprises by teams who have not been expected to compete for divisional titles, and this year is no different, as 5 teams won Sunday and declared their presence in the race for the Lombardi Trophy.

Minnesota, who lost their franchise quarterback in the offseason, pulled off their second upset in as many weeks after they beat NFC favorites Carolina Sunday 16-13. The Vkings are a surprising 2-0 on the season.

New Orleans, who returns to the Superdome next Monday after a year on the road because of hurricane Katrina, and they will return home with something for their fans to cheer, a 2-0 start. The Saints beat Green Bay 34-27 behind a strong performance by Drew Brees.

Atlanta added John Abraham to their defense in the offseason and the move appears to have payed off, as the Falcons moved to 2-0 by defeating Tampa Bay 14-3. The Falcons, one year removed from the NFC championship game, look to be ready to make another title run.

Two teams who were mild favorites also went to 2-0 Sunday when the San Diego Chargers got their second straight dominating performance by their defense and a strong outing from quarterback Phillup Rivers in their 40-7 win at home vs. Tennessee.

The Chicago Bears with a healthy Rex Grossman beat the Detroit Lions 34-7 in a game where the Bears defense was in complete control.

Ironically, this game ended with 41 points, 9 more than the game total of 32 put out by VIPSports.com. . As reported here, the Lions defense was not as advertised in week 1 as the bears tourched them for 34 points, singlehandedly eclipsing the point total for the game.
