Following a one year absence, the Cal
State Fullerton Titans are back in Omaha - and according to odds makers at
Sportsbook.com, the world's largest online sportsbook and
casino, they are
the favorites to win the 2006 College World Series despite a number five
national ranking.
The Titans, listed at 5-2 and led by pitching sensation Wes Roemer,
have been to Omaha 14 times, have won four College World Series and will be
looking to bring the national title back to Fullerton for the second time
in three years. The number two nationally-ranked Rice Owls, meanwhile, are
hot on the heels of the Titans at 3-1. Returning to the field of college
baseball dreams for the fifth time in ten years, the Owls boast a dominant
pitching staff and a solid .517 team average slugging percentage.
The Clemson Tigers round out the top three College World Series
favorites at 7-2. Although they hold the number one national seed, the
Tigers will have to contend with history as the last time the top-seeded
team won the national championship was in 1999.
"Pitching wins in Omaha," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director at
Sportsbook.com. "Although Cal State Fullerton has a solid throwing staff,
if another starter gets hot and can silence some bats - look out. Everybody
bets, and the College World Series is no exception - it's one of the most
anticipated baseball events of the year."
