As we head closer to the Fall elections in Rhode Island, the top liberal candidate for governor Charlie Fogarty is expressing his anti-casino views.
Fogarty is working with Linc Almond, the former Republican governor to implement an anti-casino demonstration to break-down a constitutional amendment permitting a West Warwick
gambling casino in Rhode Island.
Fogarty, the Democrat, had always maintained a neutral stance in the past, saying Rhode Islanders should be the ones deciding whether or not to build a gambling casino. Now he is saying all citizens should vote against the casino.
The proposed casino would be built by Harrah's, the mega-casino developer based out of Las-Vegas. Harrah's would partner the deal with a local indian tribe.
During a press conference at the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce headquarters, the liberal governor candidate will officially promote the anti-casino movement.
"I will be voting against the constitutional amendment allowing more
casino gambling", Fogarty said.
We'll see how this turns out come November. The first question on the ballot will cover this issue.
