A new petition to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act started on Monday and the true force of signatures is expected to come from the vast amount of players in the United States who care about preserving the game of online poker.

"The petition has started out strong," said Gordon Price from Casino Gambling Web, "however, once the online poker community begins to talk about it on their forums and blogs, that's when the numbers will start to increase by the thousands, instead of by the hundreds."

The petition expresses to congress that the public opinion desires a repeal of the Internet gambling ban that saw many of the major poker sites online disappear.

The Poker Player Alliance was formed to petition a carve out for poker in the UIGEA, however, Barney Frank said he will not focus his bill on creating that carve out. As a result, "the best thing for poker players to do is to get on board with the rest of the Internet gambling community and request a full repeal of the ill-created law."

The new petition can be found here, and the ultimate goal is to garner 400,000 legitimate signatures.
