Back when the Indians were signing all of their treaties to secure land for their future, there was one that created the Isabella Reservation around Mt. Pleasant, but in that deal land was also afforded along Saginaw Bay. All that is left from that is the Saganing reserve.
Now, that land is going to be developed by the Tribal Nation with plans to build a 32,000 square foot facility with 40 electronic table games and over 700 slot machines. That compares with the Saginaw Chippewas' Soaring Eagles Casino & Resort over in Mt. Pleasant, which has 600 electronic table games, and 4,000 slots.
There currently is no plans to build a resort or hotel along with the
casino, but it will still have dining and beverage areas.
The casino is expected to boost unemployment in the area where the unemployment rate currently sits at around 12% during the winter months. The casino says that it will employ about 300 people.
The hope is that the casino will be completed and open by the end of the year.
