Former SIGA CEO Files Lawsuit

As reported by the Saskatoon Star Phoenix: "Edward (Dutch) Lerat is suing the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) and the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Inc. (FSIN) for firing him when he was SIGA's chief executive officer.

"Lerat held the top position at SIGA from Sept. 29, 1998, until June 20, 2000, when he was fired -- a week after the provincial government suspended his licence to work in the gaming industry. His licence was suspended in response to a provincial auditor's report flagging $360,000 in corporate debit and credit card advances to Lerat.

"A two-year RCMP investigation concluded in the summer of 2003 that public money may have been misspent, but neither Lerat nor anyone else at SIGA committed a crime.

"In his statement of claim filed Monday, Lerat contends that SIGA and the FSIN wrongfully dismissed him from their employment and that his firing is without just, reasonable or any cause and is thus in breach of his employment contract…"
