The University of Massachusetts is having no part of their name or logo being associated with Internet gambling, so they have ordered that the website UMasspoker.com either shut down or face the consequences that a lawsuit might bring.

The website in question seems to be run by recent graduates as well as students, and the basis for the site is for the exchange of information about the strategies of winning at the game of poker in the forms of tournaments as well as cash games.

Any visitor of the site can go to be linked out to different sites where players can deposit money and actually play casino games online. The problem the University has is that their logo is on the site, which they claim to be copyrighted.

In an interview with the AP, Brett Burdick, who graduated from UMass last spring and apparently manages the website, had this to say, "We never got any grief over it. There's sites just like this all over the country on college campuses."

The site has seven possible other websites for people to link out to and the University claims that they did not give permission for the school name and logo use.

"The UMass name and logo are university property , and they cannot be used without the universities permission. This website is not an appropriate use", claims school spokesman Ed Blaguszewski while speaking to the Associated Press.

The school is not looking to go after the site legally, they just want their name and logo removed from being associated with the site.
