College Football Conferences Taking Shape at Season's Midpoint

College football has seen its share of upsets early in this season and that has left the top of the conference standings a bit of a mystery.

In the ACC two unlikely teams have the lead at the midway mark as Boston College and Virginia are the leaders in their respective divisions.

The Big Twelve also has some surprises at the top as Colorado, fresh off their upset win over Oklahoma, is currently the leader.

The Big East is a little tighter than the other conferences as Cincinnati, South Florida, and UConn are all unbeaten in conference play, while West Virginia and Syracuse are right behind with one loss.

In the Big Ten, Ohio State is clearly the favorite after thumping Purdue last weekend, and Illinois has been a pleasant surprise and is tied for the lead after defeating Wisconsin Saturday.

Out West, California seems to be the class of the league after USC barely defeated Washington, then lost at home to Stanford.

There is still a lot of football left to be played, but at the midway point the conferences are taking shape, and unless the traditional powers pick up the pace there will be some surprises in the BCS bowl games this year.
