As reported by Border Mail: "The Victorian Government has admitted to pocketing more gambling taxes than any other state, but plans to cut its poker machine numbers in lower income areas.
"Victoria's annual tax take from gambling is expected to top $1 billion for the first time this year, the bulk generated by the 30,000 poker machines.
"Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos said yesterday
gambling dollars represented less than 5 per cent of all revenue flowing into state coffers, and the percentage was lower than when the former Kennett government was in power..."
