Barry Bonds Finally Indicted on Federal Perjury Charges

A couple of months ago Barry Bonds made a statement claiming that he would never set foot in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame if they allowed his record setting home run ball to be displayed with an asterisk beside it.

Now, Bonds could have a much larger and more devastating word next to his name in Cooperstown - Criminal.

Federal prosecutors on Thursday unsealed an indictment against Bonds claiming that he lied under oath about steroid use at a federal hearing a few years back.

He has been charged with obstruction of justice and perjury, two charges that, if proven to be true, will do much worse for his reputation than any asterisk representing steroid use ever could.

One of Bonds' lawyers, John Burris, had this to say about the indictment, "I'm surprised. But there's been an effort to get Barry for a long time. I'm curious what evidence they have now they didn't have before."

The basis of the perjury charge stems from Bonds lying about the fact that his former trainer Greg Anderson never injected him with steroids. The charges also stem from the fact that he said he did not knowingly take steroids. He claimed Anderson gave him supplements and he did not know they were steroids.

The evidence has not yet been revealed, but the indictment indicates that they have enough evidence to prosecute the larger than life homerun hitter.
