The state of New Mexico has decided to switch providers for their lottery system as they have entered into contract with Intralot for use of their new computerized gambling system.

The numbers that are involved in the deal are almost mind blowing when one considers that the lottery is put in place to generate money for states to use to balance their budgets.

The lottery will pay a base price to Intralot of 1.5 percent, which is $18.2 million, that number is based on projections of net sales of $1.15 billion.

So, what does the lottery receive for that kind of astronomical money? The price includes the use of a communications network and ticket sales terminals and other equipment necessary for function in the 1,100 retailers in the state.

The savings over the previous system that the lottery was using is also a big number, $35.4 million. That is what the savings will be over the course of the entire agreement.

The current contract expires in November of next year, and the old system will quickly be replaced by the new, computerized version from Intralot.
