Heavy rains have been ravaging the U.S. Southern Plains the past few weeks. The rains have caused flooding, which have now caused the Isle of Capri to close their riverboat casino in Mississippi.
The Isle of Capri has already been dealing with revenue loss across their fourteen casinos in the United States. For the first quarter, they have seen a loss of $13.9 million.
The closing of the casino in Natchez, Mississippi, will not help their financial cause. The flooding did not necessarily effect the casino itself, but the roads leading to the casino were the problem.
The roads were flooded, making it near impossible for people to get to the casino. The company says that insurance will cover the cost of shutting the casino down.
"The problem isn't flooding of the casino, it's flooding of the roads," said Jill Haynes, spokeswoman for Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc..
The company has not been going through the best of times financially. Stock in the company has dropped almost seventy five percent of its value in the past year.
