Indiana Casino Revenue Numbers Decreased By $3 Million In June

Indiana casinos thought just like casinos in other states that they were immune to any kind of economic hardships of the country. Revenue figures are showing that they, along with casinos in other states, have been seriously mislead.

The revenue numbers for June were released today by the Indiana Gaming Commission and they were not encouraging for the state. The revenue was down almost $3 million from the same month last year.

The state now has thirteen casinos operating. They brought in around $78.6 million in tax revenue for the month of June. Last year in June, the tax revenue numbers were $81.5 million. Those figures are also including two new casinos that were open this June.

Nearly 200,000 less people visited the Indiana casinos from last year. 2.1 million people visited this year, while 2.3 million came through the doors in the previous year.

"Historically, the industry has been resistant to the economy. I believe this is the first time in gaming history that it has had an effect," said Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director, Ernie Yelton.

Across the board at the state's casinos revenue was down. Casinos in other states are experiencing the same kind of revenue decreases. Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the country has seen their revenue numbers drop drastically in the past year.
