500-1 Long Shot Greg Norman Leads At The British Open

500-1 long shots simply do not come in for gamblers. No matter how much it is tempting to place a bet on something at 500-1, most sane people can not find the nerve to pull the trigger on such a bet.

If anyone did happen to believe that Greg Norman would somehow miraculously find his golf swing after ten years, they could become very rich tomorrow. Norman is the leader at the British Open going into the final round.

Norman has not been a factor in a major tournament in a long time. If he holds on to the lead on Sunday, he will complete one of the most improbable tournaments in golfs history.

Odds makers had him listed as a 500-1 underdog heading into the British Open. 500-1 horses would not even make it to the starting gate. The odds are ridiculous, and Norman has a chance to cash in on them.

He takes a two shot lead into the final round, but closing the deal could prove difficult for Norman. He is paired with the defending British Open champion Padraig Harrington.

What Norman can accomplish tomorrow would go down as one of the greatest sports stories ever told. He has not played in a major golf tournament in three years. He entered the British only as a tune up for upcoming senior events.

Even with all the odds against him, it will only take one more magical round to make him the oldest player ever to win a major. Norman used to find ways to choke these leads away.

He is 1-6 in his career when entering the final round of tournaments with the lead. Maybe this time, at the latter stages of his golf career, he will finally find a way to reverse that trend.
