Online gambling is an industry that has been dominated by the underground organizations ever since the American government made it harder for online companies to accept bets from American customers. Individual states are well aware of the potential of online gambling.
The state of Ohio will watch their new gambling plan go into effect on August 4th. 1,001 statewide agents will be offering a new Keno online lottery game in the state.
The new game is expected to generate $70 million a year, which will go towards balancing the state budget and education. Ohio is simply trying to keep up in these slow economic times.
"we're putting it (Keno) in because it's what people want. It's just another shot to keep us afloat with the way things are going," said service officer Joe Caputo.
The way things are going is not good for state lotteries. While some state lotteries are flourishing and reaching all time levels of revenue, others are watching their profits dwindle thanks to the economy.
Many businesses are adding the game to increase their profits, but some are claiming to have the state's education system in mind. "Although the commission is minimal, I like the idea of the lottery because it supports the schools," said Edmund Gazdazko of Sto-Kent Family Entertainment.
