As reported by the Sunday Times: "The licence of the Casino di Venezia, in Vittoriosa, was cancelled on grounds of an insufficient human resources complement after 14 staff members, including the general manager, were dismissed, The Times has learnt.

"The discharges followed incidents that occurred on July 9, the night of the World Cup final, and were described by sources close to the casino as 'too shameful, disgusting and unacceptable' to talk about.

"According to law, the casino, which has been mired in controversy since it opened in 2001, has 21 days to object, the CEO of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, Mario Galea, said.

"...Mr Galea would not give details about the incidents, except that they involved staff members and not clients, adding that the gaming inspectors, who have to be present at casinos by law, had witnessed them and that police reports had also been filed..."
