The beginning of the NFL regular season usually sees a time for gamblers to make some money early in the regular season before the house takes it all back in the end.
Week one in 2007, however, finished on Sunday with most gamblers shaking their heads at some of the outcomes to the games.
There were 13 games played on Sunday, and if week one was any indicator, this season could prove to be one of the toughest in recent history for the casual gambler.

LSU had their first big test of the season on Saturday night and what was supposed to be a tough hard fought game turned into a rout by halftime as the Tigers slammed the visiting Virginia Tech Hokies.
LSU crept closer to the Trojans for the number one spot, but after those two teams the two polls, the AP, and the Coaches Poll, could not agree on the rest of the top five.
The AP had Oklahoma at #3, the Sooners ran all over a once proud Miami Hurricane team Saturday.

As has been reported here at CGW, Florida Governor Charlie Crist is close to getting a deal done with the Seminole Indians that would allow Vegas style slots, as well as Blackjack and Baccarat.
On Monday, however, that pending agreement was put in jeopardy as State House leaders claimed they would not ratify such an agreement.

According to an article in the Antigua Sun, the USTR declined to comment on Antigua and Barbuda's submission to the WTO justifying their $3.4 compensation claim. The official who responded from the USTR pointed out that there has been insufficient time to study Antigua's claim carefully, but the official continues to hold the position that the damages being claimed appear inaccurate.

In an effort to educate their youth, a new charity has been set up to help teenagers learn to gamble responsibly, and avoid addiction.

Ron Paul clearly won the Republican presidential debate last night held in New Hampshire. Viewers were asked to text in their thoughts on who won the debate, Ron Paul received 34%, Giuliani 17%, all others lower. Fred Thompson who did not appear at the debate was clearly the largest loser as his pro-war stance and republican hard line talking points seem to be not what the people are looking for.

Florida Governor Charlie Christ, in his quest to fill a $1.1 billion dollar budget deficit, is considering the privatization of the state-managed lottery. The idea is turn over operation of the lottery to licensed private vendors in exchange for higher net revenues. In it's current state, the Florida Lottery is a less-than-efficient operation, according to many lawmakers in Tallahassee. The cost of operating the lottery has become greater than the benefit.

The Christain anti-gambling groups in West Virginia fought a valiant fight in their state to keep table gaming from expanding to Kanawha County casinos, but in the end the popular opinion of the people won.
The vote in Kanawha County originally took place on August 11 and intitial counts ruled the expansion of table games to the area's casino approved by a total of 339 votes.

On June 5, 2007 a little known not-for-profit group named iMEGA filed a complaint against Alberto Gonzales at the Department of Justice meant to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). A court date was immediately given to iMEGA for August 17, but at the last moment the defense asked for an extension and the new date for the initial hearing was postponed until September 4.
So the online gambling industry patiently began their wait.
