The first day at the British Open in Carnoustie, Scotland featured #1 ranked Tiger Woods, Englishman Justin Rose and local Scottish star Phil Lawry competing for an 8.5 million dollar prize (4.4 million pounds). Fans traveled great distances, many from the US, New Zealand, Europe, and Japan to witness the classic event with their own eyes.
The trio started off at 9am, as light rain and a brisk North Sea wind stirred up the course.

This years World Series of Poker main event has gone very smoothly up until this point, but with the stakes as high as they are, play has slowed to a crawl, with the four remaining players exchanging blinds.
Players have gone on a twenty minute break and unlike in past main event final tables, there is not much action or interaction between the four remaining players.
Jerry Yang is the chip leader with 57,625,000 chips.

Playboy Bunny, Jenny McCarthy, beau of super-actor Jim Carey, has signed a contract with The Palms Casino Resort today to become the first ever celebrity Bunny Dealer at the Playboy Club in Las Vegas.
McCarthy has gone through extensive training on becoming a dealer. She has learned how to swiftly deal out the hands along with lessons in shuffling eight decks of cards like a pro.

Over 6,000 participants entered into the 2007 World Series of Poker main event and after 10 days of grueling action, the field is down to the final 17 players on two tables. The day will conclude when we are down to our final table.

In an effort to minimize problem gamblers on the Internet, Gamblers Anonymous in Scotland is planning to use the Internet for assistance.
Gamblers Anonymous has announced that it plans to roll out Skype, which allows phone calls over the Internet to be made free from the Highlands and other small communities with poor transport links.
Based in Glasgow, the charity will launch the program later this year.

The first two days of the World Series of Poker are a grind, but the players who made it to day four on Friday are getting rewarded, everyone from here on out in the tournament will be winners.
The latest players that have been knocked out of the tournament have received over $50,000 for advancing this far, and that number will only rise as the players go deeper into the event.

For the first two days of this years main event, all the players were divided into different subsections, and the players have played a day, then had a day off, that all changed on Thursday when for the first time this year, all the players that were left in the tournament were playing.

The main event of the World Series of Poker is usually chaos for the first two days of the event until some of the participants are eliminated. the professionals usually lay low and let the clutter spill out before they get serious, but this year is different, many of the big names are already out.
Day 2B is turning out to be no kinder to these pros, as, just like in previous days this year, many have been eliminated.

In a telephone conversation today with an intern at the House Financial Service Committee, Casino Gambling has learned that there is no scheduled activity on Rep Barney Frank's Bill, H.R. 2046 before September.
Our conversation was about the Internet Gambling, Regulation, and Enforcement Act which Barney Frank proposed this past April. The bill just yesterday picked up two more co-sponsors making a total of 28 representatives signed on to date.

A popular television game show, 'Deal or No Deal', is accused of providing 'gambling' via telephone.
Two Georgia game show fans have file a federal lawsuit against the popular game show and NBC for an undisclosed amount of money. The lawsuit charges that during the broadcast of each show, viewers at home are encouraged to text a message to the show, at a charge of 99 cents for each text message for a chance to win $10,000.

Miami-Dade County commissioners on Tuesday allowed for a ballot question in the January 29, 2008 election to let voters decide on Vegas Style slot machine gambling at the county's three pari-mutuals.
In 2005, Miami-Dade voters defeated a measure to allow the slots. At that time, only 14% of eligible voters turned out to vote. Commissioners are hopeful that this new vote will pass as it is included in the states presidential primary election and a much larger turnout is expected.

New Jersey Casino Control Commission released more data indicating the decline in Atlantic City revenue from gambling.

As the World Series of Poker goes on in Las Vegas the idea of legalizing and regulating online gambling is running through the minds of Washington D.C. politicians. Yesterday, two more House Representatives signed on to co-sponsor bill HR 2046, aka, the Internet gambling legalization bill.
Congressman Anthony D. Weiner, from New York, signed on early in the day. Then Bennie G. Thompson, representing the second district of Mississippi signed on to co-sponsor the bill.

Internet betting site founder Nick Jenkins, who challenged the laws of gambling in his state, claiming his site, Betcha.com, should not actually be defined as gambling, watched as his computers were confiscated and his company seized on Monday by the Washington State Gambling Commission.
On Friday Jenkins had a meeting with the Washington State Gambling Commission. They told him to shut down his site or face the consequences.

John Lefebvre, the co-founder of financial transaction service company Neteller, today plead guilty to charges of conspiracy to conduct illegal Internet gambling transactions. Lefebvre is the co-founder of Neteller along with friend, Stephen Lawrence. Lawrence was the first to plead guilty to the same charges last week.
In the plea deal, he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors and testify if necessary.

The World Series of Poker had this year's tournament set up with four day 1's, and was prepared to accommodate up to 12,000 players. It fell short of that number, but still came out with 6,358 entrants.
The number of entrants is down from last years tourney, but still up from the 2005 numbers.
The prize pool is $59,784,954, which is still a tremendous amount of money to be divided up among the top 621 finishers.

As the days go on here at the World Series of Poker's main event, more and more professionals are taking their seats, and the number of participants in growing larger each day.
On Sunday, there was expected to be close to 1700 players and that will be followed by perhaps the biggest of day ones on Monday.

Coming into this year's World Series of Poker's main event it was uncertain whether the expectations of 12,000 participants by tournament organizers was realistic. After day one of the tourney, one thing is almost certain, this year's event will not be as big as last year.
