New Florida Poker rules allow 'No Limit' Texas Hold 'em for a $100 maximum buy-in for normal play and a maximum $800 buy-in for tournament play.
Betting on limit poker games has been increased to $5 from $2.
The new law also allows for Jackpots and other giveaways.
Operation of card rooms at Pari-mutual venues has been expanded to allow them to operate when there is no racing on that days schedule.

The World Series of Poker started on Friday in Las Vegas, also on Friday Washington State Attorney Lee Rousso filed suit in that state in an effort to overturn its 2006 enacted law that makes playing Internet gambling games a Class C felony. In the suit Rousso called the law a direct violation of the U.S. Constitution's Commerce Clause.
Rousso said the "first legal challenge to the law also should be the last.

The Swedish Tax Board says that sites providing gambling related content along with links to gambling sites are paid by the gaming operator sites for every player who clicks through. They announced this week that they will be actively pursuing those 'affiliates' who haven't paid taxes for that income, to gain back taxes and possibly to prosecute some for tax evasion.

There have been 54 events started at this years World Series of Poker, and while there has been exciting so far in this years series, nothing will compare to the main event, which starts today in Las Vegas.
The Rio Hotel and Casino will be the site of this years main event, featuring 12,000 players from around the world. The tournament will begin at 12:00, and has grown so much in the past few years, that there will be four day ones.

Last Friday new laws went into affect in Florida that had poker rooms around the state scrambling to accommodate the thousands of players that were filling their poker rooms.
Now, it appears that the Indian Tribes were taking advantage of a loophole in the new law to allow no limit Texas Hold'em games, a move that in its first week of existence, nearly wiped out all tournaments at the Seminole Casinos in Hollywood and Coconut Creek.

Following the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in the US last year Harrah's Entertainment announced that they would not be accepting players who were sponsored by online poker, casino, or other gambling websites. The World Series of Poker tournaments, as a result, were expected to see a much lower turn out than the record breaking numbers that were seen last year.

As we reported last week, Trump Entertainment Resorts, Inc. was heavily into discussion to sell off its casino interest in Atlantic City to a hedge fund group and private equity firm.
The market price and that which was sought by Trump, had a huge variance.
Today the entertainment company said it has ended talks to sell, as a deal could not be reached. Shares in Trump Entertainment plunged 14 percent on this announcement - down $1.81 to $10.77.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi opened Saturday, a week before the planned opening.
The casino, originally planned to open in September 2005, but Hurricane Katrina destroyed the new resort along with much of the Biloxi area.

Global revenue from gambling is expected to climb 8.8 percent annually from $82.2 billion in 2005 to $125 billion by 2010, according to a new estimate by consultant Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP.

In the Texas state legislature, the religious right members have again stopped the voters from going to the polls to decide whether to allow casino gambling within the state.

Event #39 carried with it a huge payout, but with that huge payout came a steep entry fee, $50,000. the tournament was a World Championship H.O.R.S.E. event, and when all was said and done, Kassam Deeb came away with this years biggest prize yet, $2,276,832. The Texas state government has been fighting for years with the United States Department of the Interior over the Kickapoo Indian Tribe's plan to offer Las Vegas style gambling at its casino near Eagle Pass along the Mexican border.

On Sunday, a new state law takes effect that allows state licensed betting establishments to offer 'no-limit' Texas Hold'em and increase limits on other games.

Neteller founder Stephen Lawrence today entered a plea of guilty to charges of conspiracy of handling billions of dollars in illegal Internet gambling proceeds.

Yesterday, HR-2046 gained another sponsor. Congressional representative Don Young of Alaska has joined 23 other co-sponsors to Barney Frank’s proposed bill to legalize, regulate, license and tax online gambling.
