500-1 long shots simply do not come in for gamblers. No matter how much it is tempting to place a bet on something at 500-1, most sane people can not find the nerve to pull the trigger on such a bet.
If anyone did happen to believe that Greg Norman would somehow miraculously find his golf swing after ten years, they could become very rich tomorrow. Norman is the leader at the British Open going into the final round.

Governor Charlie Crist is not about to end his fight to try and get his gambling compact with the Seminole Indians reinstated. Crist and the Seminoles have asked the state Supreme Court to reconsider their ruling that voided the compact.
The odds of Crist and the Seminoles actually winning the right to a rehearing are slim. It is not often that rehearings are granted. The chances in this case are even less than usual thanks to the unanimous vote by the justices.

The World Series of Poker has enjoyed a tremendous growth spurt over the past ten years. Thousands of poker players, both pro and amateur, funnel into Las Vegas for a few months every summer.
The Series lasts into July and is capped by a Main Event that this year featured over 6,000 players. There are various ways of getting into the Main Event from satellite tournaments to the practical choice of simply putting up the ten grand entry fee.

The British Open betting odds already had defending champion Padraig Harrington as a 16-1 choice of winning for a second consecutive year. Now, those odds mat drop even lower than that.
Harrington took only two full shots on Wednesday in preparation of the British Open. He is bothered by a wrist injury that could keep him from even the opportunity to defend his crown.

The state of Missouri has a gambling limit law that states that no person can lose more than $500 in a two hour period. The casinos in the state want the law changed, and they are spending big money to help in the fight.
Pinnacle Entertainment and Ameristar Casinos have each donated $250,000 to a group that is fighting to overturn the current gambling limit laws. The money will be well spent should the limit laws be changed.

Authorities around the country have not only been targeting slot machines, but also illegal sports gambling rings. Their latest investigation has led them to one of their own.
A warrant has been issued for Miami-Dade police officer Michael King, 42. He is being charged with Bookmaking, Racketeering, and Conspiracy to Racketeer. He has been an officer since 1989.
Forty individuals will be arrested in the drug and gambling sting.

The World Series of Poker Main Event final table has been set a few days ago. Now that the players have off until November, the media will have plenty of time to get to know the final nine players.
They are being dubbed the 'November Nine' by the World Series of Poker. Of the nine finalists, four different countries will be represented. The United States has the most players represented with five.
Two Canadians have made the final table.

The world of professional golf became much easier for the rest of the season for pro golfers. They no longer have to contend with the best player in the world.
Tiger Woods is no longer a factor to win titles this year, and that is good news for the rest of the golfers. They now believe they have fighting chance to become champions.

The casino gambling debate has been a hot topic in the state of Massachusetts. Lobbyists have been pouring money into making sure that their side of the debate was heard.
Secretary of State William Galvin suggested that the money spent by lobbyists with gambling interest this year could break an all time record. The groups had been pushing hard for legalized casinos in the state.

The spotlight over the past two weeks has been on the World Series of Poker Main Event. Players came in from all over the world to compete, and finally the final table was set.
That did not signal the end of the Series, however. There still was one more event to be held. The last event of the tournament was the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em tournament.
The tournament held a $500 buy-in and began on Monday.

At the end of last week, the state of New York said that they would not stop sending inspectors to the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino. The move stunned lawyers who claim the decision of U.S. District Judge William Skretny was that the casino was operating illegally.
Now, those lawyers have filed a motion late Monday afternoon that asks the judge to enforce last week's ruling and close down the casino.

Yesterday we had a woman in the top three positions in terms of chips entering the day and it looked as though we might see our first ever woman winner at the World Series of Poker Main Event.
Things did not go as planned for Tiffany Michelle, but for nine others, the day went beautifully, and we now have our final table set for the main event. The remaining players will now have to wait until November to try and win the most coveted bracelet in the world.

The United States is not very good at admitting when they are wrong. Most of the time they simply skew the truth to make other countries wrong in disputes. In the ongoing battle with Antigua over Internet gambling, they are wrong, and they know it.
Maybe that is why representatives from the United States flew to Antigua this week to negotiate a resolution to the ongoing battle between the two countries.

New York State made a decision to keep their inspectors at a casino that was ruled to be illegal. The move comes after U.S. District Judge William Skretny ruled that a temporary casino that was being run by the Seneca Nation was being done so illegally.

Authorities in Florida are looking for a couple who spent Thursday traveling to different Kangaroo convenience stores and robbing scratch off lottery tickets. The couple hit at least five stores on Thursday.
The couple would go into the convenience stores and ask to purchase several scratch off lottery tickets. Once they were given the tickets, they tried to pay for them with credit cards.

Major League Baseball will hold their version of the slam dunk contest on Monday. Eight participants competing in a home run derby. This year, it will be held in the Bronx.
Yankee Stadium takes center stage this week for the All Star game festivities and first up is the home run contest on Monday. Lance Berkman of the Houston Astros is the gambling favorite to win the event.
Berkman had an MVP first half for the last place Astros.

Kansas city area casinos released their bad news regarding revenue late this week. The revenue numbers dropped in June from $60.5 million last year to $58.8 million this year.

On Thursday, Barden announced that he was giving up control of the Pittsburgh casino project. He had failed to secure the necessary funding to continue the project, and has now turned over control.

The World Series of Poker is a long and grueling competition that takes all of the greatest poker players in the world to Las Vegas. After crowning over forty champions over the past month, the Main Event has finally become the focus of the Series.
The main Event began last week and had over 6,500 participants entered. The first two days of the tournament covered almost a week and eliminated over half of the field. Now, the tournament is turning for home.

The Chicago mob took a big hit when police busted an illegal gambling operation that was being run. One of the smaller, but important figures in that bust was sentenced today after pleading guilty.
Dennis Johnson was sentenced in Federal court today to the smallest sentence allowable under federal guidelines. He received six months in prison to be followed by three years of probation.

Senator Barack Obama has been receiving criticism for reversing his stance regarding public financing for the general election. However, Obama is a gambling man, and his gambling instincts told him that giving John McCain a head start of five months was not in the cards.
While Republicans rip Obama for going back on his word, they fail to understand that when he committed to public financing, he thought that everyone in the race would agree.

The New England Patriots almost achieved perfection last season. If not for one improbable pass from Eli Manning, the Patriots would now be one of two undefeated teams in NFL history.
Manning completed that pass, however, and it sent the Patriots to their only loss of the season. This year, New England will be out for revenge and sports books believe they will get it.
The Patriots are the gambling favorite to win the Super Bowl next season.

Indiana casinos thought just like casinos in other states that they were immune to any kind of economic hardships of the country. Revenue figures are showing that they, along with casinos in other states, have been seriously mislead.
The revenue numbers for June were released today by the Indiana Gaming Commission and they were not encouraging for the state. The revenue was down almost $3 million from the same month last year.

The NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers go hand in hand. The Steelers were bought in 1933 for $2,500 by Art Rooney. He had gotten lucky at a horse race and won some money and decided to invest it in a pro football team.
In the seventy five years since that transaction took place, the Steelers have stood as the model franchise in the NFL. They have been owned by the same family that bought the team for all seventy five years.
