The State of Texas currently does not allow casino gambling, but if State Senators John Corona of Dallas and Rodney Ellis of Houston have their way, voters will be able to decide in December whether to allow casinos in the state.
A new bill has been proposed by the two senators would allow voters to decide the future of gambling in the state. Also on the bill would be the legalization of slot machines at horse and dog tracks.

It was the religious conservatives pushing certain senators and congressman that caused the Internet gambling ban in America. Last year's law was passed as Internet gambling was deemed to be 'morally wrong'. One could, however, make a case that Congress should enact a law to ban religion, as it too is morally wrong - to the vast majority of thinking persons.

The maximum betting limits at a poker table in the state of Florida has been $2, with players being able to raise three times in a given playing round, but that will soon all change as a bill has passed through both the Senate and the House, leaving only the Governor, Charlie Crist to veto the bill.
It is not expected that the Governor would take the veto action, which would mean the new law would go into affect the first day of July, 2007.

The casino is a huge 36 story tower that features 216 hotel rooms, 500 slot machines, and 220 gaming tables. The casino can only boost the ever growing casino industry on the island of Macau.

The state legislature in California has concluded that California's lottery system, approved by voters back in 1984 to help increase revenue for the public school system, is not living up to its financial goals and the private sector could do better.
In an announcement this afternoon, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to privatize the state lottery, a move that has never happened before in the US.

Before the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act forced out the great gambling software providers in the United States players saw the highest payout percentages for real slot machines. Some software providers had their slots payout at higher than 95% rates on a monthly basis. Brick and mortar casinos typically have their slots payout at an 83% monthly pace.

An aid to Shelley Berkley has told us she will gladly accept a meeting with us in order to read over the Internet gambling petition we have started, which today has more than 3,700 signatures.

Financial results for the first quarter were released and the WPT announced revenues for that quarter at $4.5 million, down $2 million from the first quarter of 2006. Nothing to be worried about for the Tour as the decrease is due to only 5 episodes airing on television this year, compared to 6 episodes in last year's first quarter. Also, they delivered 1 episode of the PPT in 2006.
The company reported a net loss for the quarter of 2.3 million or $0.11 a share, compared to $0.

As is the case with everything, expansion of other companies play a big role in each other's profit margins. For a long time the casinos that reside in Atlantic City, New Jersey, had no competition and saw great profits. But for the first time, the casinos are seeing profits drop, a direct relation to the new slot parlors that now exist in New York and Pennsylvania.

Authorities were reviewing video surveillance from several cameras in and around the Luxor Hotel and Casino's parking garage after an apparent bomb went off shortly after 4 am on Tuesday morning.
The bomb was not considered to be a terrorist act and the police are treating the matter as a homicide with an unusual weapon.

Due to higher than expected earnings, shares of Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ: WYNN) are rising in aftermarket trading this evening. The Las Vegas casino resort operator announced a solid increase in profits for the 1st quarter of 2007 earlier in the day.
Wynn's quarterly revenue topped analyst predictions, according to a Thomson Financial poll of stock market experts, thanks to the opening of Wynn Macau in September and strong Wynn Las Vegas results.

The World Trade Organization ruled against the United States in a case that Antigua brought up against the world powerful American nation over the Internet gambling ban in the US. Prime Minister Michael Somare on Tuesday introduced The Gaming Control Bill of 2007, which will allow limited Internet gambling in the Pacific nation of New Guinea. The bill passed the last session of Parliament 61-0.
Each of Papua New Guinea's provinces will be allowed to obtain one casino license for a period of ten years.

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority saw it's profits rise by almost 22 percent in the company's last quarter. The increase has much to do with the new laws allowing slot machines.
Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains played a big part in the increase, which saw profits go from 34.8 million in the same quarter last year, to 42.3 million this year.
The revenue was not all gambling related, however, it was responsible for $357 million of the reported $390 collected revenue.

The Arizona authorities raided four illegal gambling rings centered in Phoenix and operated in three states. This group of street level bookies utilized various methods of placing bets and collecting money, one of which was the ability to use computers to make wagers.

The recent news of Congressman Barney Frank introducing a bill to legalize online gambling is a misnomer of sorts in that gambling at Internet casinos and online poker rooms is not currently illegal in the United States. There are eleven individual states that have laws that disallow their residents from gambling in any form online, but the other thirty-nine US states have no laws banning the activity.

Responding to the proposed legislation to legalize Internet gambling by Congressman Barney Frank on Thursday, Chad Hills, a Focus on the Family action analyst, stated in an interview with CNBC's Melissa Francis, that internet gambling is at best, "social cannibalism".
Mr. Hills is taking the far right religious position that internet gambling is bad because it entices young people to act irresponsibly, causes suicide, tears apart families, and ruins communities.

Brady Quinn came into today's NFL draft with many different views on where he would begin his career. Many thought that possibly the Browns would take him with their first round pick. There ended up being some truth to that theory as the Browns did take Quinn in the first round, however, he was not their first pick, one that was used on Joe Thomas. The Amateur Poker Tour saw one of it's offices in Wheat Ridge, Colorado earlier this week. Agents went equipped with search warrants to the office, which is located at 9751 West 44th Avenue.
Nobody was arrested in the sting, but the agents did seize documents and records from the Wheat Ridge office. The Colorado Division of Gaming worked with The Colorado Bereau on the investigation.

Yahoo, one of the biggest online sites, is making a move toward the world of real money online poker. The move comes with the launching of their online poker site www.yahoo.co.uk/poker.
Yahoo has entered into a partnership with Sweeden's Boss Media AB and St. Minver LTD. The two companies combined to provide the software as well as other services for Yahoo.
The site is being released in the UK, but will be available in any country that online poker is legal.

When the United States passed the UIGE Act in 2006 they unofficially deregulated the sufficiently self-regulated Internet gambling business. With Barney Frank's new bill to legalize online gaming, he is introducing to the United States congress all the regulations that were already in place and working before the US prohibited banks from allowing 'illegal' gaming transactions.

Congressman Barney Frank said at a bankers committee meeting today that he will introduce his bill to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act on Thursday. Details of the bill will be revealed by Frank at a 10 a.m. press conference.
Frank said today that it was beyond him how a bill could have passed that dictates if an adult is or isn't allowed to gamble with their own money in the confounds of their own home.
