West Virginia casinos continue to progress despite the numerous obstacles that have slowed their development. Officials at state tracks first asked for table games as a response to Pennsylvania installing video poker at several locations many months ago. The thought was that video poker might lure West Virginians over the state border, and table games might be the best chance to retain players and bring in new customers.

The San Diego Chargers have finished the season on a tear. They have put all their early season problems behind them and are coming into the playoffs playing very good football. Odds makers rewarded that today, when they made the Chargers nine point favorites over Tennessee.
The rest of the lines for next week's games also reflect how teams played during the final stretch of the season. The Jaguars are favored on the road against the higher seed, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tonight's Chick-fil-A Bowl matches two teams that actually played well enough in the regular season to be on the verge of deserving a postseason appearance. Ranked 15th in the nation, Clemson, at 9-3, will take on Auburn, ranked 22nd with an 8-4 record.
While many of the early bowl games have had offensive excitement, and given gamblers reason to turn on the television, the level of overall play has been sloppy at best, and just poor in several instances.

Ireland Justice Minister Brian Lenihan has decided that there is a middle ground when it comes to casino gambling. Originally thought to be in favor of banning it all together, he now believes there is compromise.

Currently only the island of Tinian has a functional casino in the Northern Mariana islands. That may change soon after the House of Representatives in Rota approved an appropriation Bill that will fund a casino project.
The Bill was not a landslide in the House. It needed fourteen yes votes to pass, and originally it only had twelve. After being urged by House Speaker Oscar Babauta, three representatives that originally abstained changed their votes to yes.

Casino gambling revenue has been put to many uses by cities and states around the country. One of the weirdest uses of the revenue could occur in Waterloo if officials have their way.
Waterloo City Council members have decided by vote at their latest meeting that they would like to use $80,000 of the cities casino gambling revenue for the demolition of an old, abandoned school.

More States are coming to rely heavily on income generated by lotteries to offset deficits and growth, or to reduce spending of public monies on certified programs such as education, and senior services.
The income generated by the lotteries come largely from the people that can least afford to spend money on them.

Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack is ready to become a full-service casino this week. Barring unforeseen complications, Thursday morning should bring the full-fledged opening of table games at the West Virginia property.
The casino will test the play of 43 tables featuring games including blackjack, craps, roulette, and Caribbean poker on Monday and Tuesday. Play money will be used for the tests, with all proceeds donated to local charities.

Las Vegas Sands Corporation owns the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. One would think that if they could gain approval in the city where casino gambling is king, then a place like Kansas would be a breeze.
Not so fast. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County board of commissioners said no to a $500 proposal from Sands. The planning Commission actually rejected the offer, and the board upheld the rejection.

The idea of the BCS was to get the ten best teams in the country, match them up, and create five exciting college football games. According to odds makers, these teams are not so evenly matched.
Of the five BCS bowl games, only one game has a point spread of less than four points. The Virginia Tech Hokies are favored by 3.5 points over Kansas.
The next lowest spread is the national title game. The LSU Tigers, with two losses already on the season, are favored by 5.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has recommended that the Tropicana Casino and Resort be issued a one year license. That will give the casino one year to try and prove that it is once again running a high class operation.
The casino has been under scrutiny over the past year for what former workers consider to be an understaffed and dirty casino. The casino has laid off nearly 900 employees.

This season more than any in the past had the opportunity to be the one that ruined the BCS system. No team went through the season undefeated, and only a few had one loss.
One team, the Kansas Jayhawks only had one loss, but did not win their conference. Georgia was also a possibility for the title game, but they did not win their conference either.

Bodog Entertainment Group, S.A., received good news when a federal magistrate judge ruled that the company will not be subject to examination in Nevada.
The ruling came, in part, because BODOG was not a resident of Nevada. The infamous owner of the company, Calvin Ayre, is also not a resident, and therefore is also not subject to examination.
The case had been brought on by a contempt motion filed by 1st Technology, LLC.

Penn National Gaming thought they would be in a great position once Maryland allowed racing tracks to add video poker, but they ended up pulling out of a deal after learning they could have no such games.
The Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, Maryland was the place that Penn agreed to buy back in August. The deal for the 58 year old harness track was made between Penn and Cloverleaf Enterprises Incorporated.
